Cosco [°1978 Belgium] is a contemporary artist. His work depends on the aspects of simplicity, as a response on the complexity of daily life in the 21st century. His projects, sculptures, actions, paintings, installations, photographs, movies, drawings, writings, prints & books all search to integrate themselves, into a world-view going deep into the unknown. He strives to extend our perceptions from the ordinary, and to see the beauty of the timeless presence which lies within it. To do so he didn't fear ambitious participatory projects, like an archaeological labyrinth mission in Egypt, a honeybee conservancy network, or the building of a high mountain library in Spain. Correspondingly, in 2011 Cosco relocated to the Alpujarra, to life an off-grid and more natural life, to implement the vision of a sustainable social future.
In the calmness of the mountains Cosco started intensely to paint as contemplation on the human condition. Combining an appreciation for the value of spontaneity with a meticulously planned process. Blending rigor of divine proportio and freedom, fusing elemental presence and pure abstraction. Reflecting the Zen essence of non-dualism.
These works are created out of ‘being-time’, in the everydayness of 'here and now'. In his work he makes no distinction between past, present, and future, or between body and mind. For Cosco, the act of painting is a moving meditation, generating expressive works with a particularly natural, cosmological and living quality. This by abandoning all true to life perspective, figuration or symbolism, and working with a primitive, yet refined spatial poetry, which makes one reflect on the eternal nature of reality.[online CV]
The Cosco Foundation was founded in 2009 by Louis De Cordier [Cosco] in the realization of his non-profit projects, to enable patronage and crowd funding. Today, the Foundation team preserves its patrimonium of among thousands of books, manages the Cosco collection, and the daily coordination in the ongoing realisation of our visionary philantropic projects. Slowly weaving our humanistic activities into the social fabric of the Alpujarra, radiating our direct actions into the far distant future.
